Electric Thermal Storage Heaters Electric Thermal Storage Heaters have been in existence for over 50 years in Europe and have received wide acceptance in the last 10 years throughout Europe, Asia and now in the U.S. Its inventors realized that they couldn't store electricity, so they decided to store the heat. Like many of us, they noticed that the rocks around a campfire were still warm in the morning, even though the fire had gone out hours ago. Some of the first models are still in operation today, though without the refinements of computerized controls, etc. But it does attest to the longevity of the units! These heaters use cheap power that is available in "off peak" hours. They have the potential to reduce heating costs by 50% and many of our Ontario customers have enjoyed savings that reach that number! Now that the Ontario government is promoting the use of Interval Meters, soon everyone can enjoy these significant savings. Night time power has averaged approximately 2.5 cents per kW hour, while in the daytime it has been artificially capped at 4.3 cents. This is soon to increase, leaving the 'off peak' cost of power at 2.5 cents or less than half the cost! There is potential for great savings compared to other heating methods!
